It ain't easy for the male heron during mating season

The wife wants to expand the rec room so you got to shop for the materials

D3D8959-XL.jpg

then there's this take off thing
D3D8927-XL.jpg

D3D8983-XL.jpg

D3D8984-XL.jpg

then you have to lug it home to the nest
D3D9344-XL.jpg

D3D8989-XL.jpg

then w/o a break you're off again
D3D9106-XL.jpg

and you're back to the shopping again
D3D9355-XL.jpg

Used the D3 and the 200-400 f4 at ISO 1000 for these captures.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Harry, these are fabulous photos--such rich colors.clap.gifclapclap.gif And to be able to follow the whole process is just great. I am a little suspicious of your story line. My husband loves telling people that he gets up, fixes breakfast, washes dishes, and then does the ironing and it is SO NOT TRUE! :nono

Well...I don't know how you tell the girls from the boys...but I do know this is an excellent set of images. thumb.gif

Really like jump to flight and return to nest.

I'm glad you enjoyed the pics but alas my tale is true. The female lazes around the nest all day while the poor male is going back and forth hauling those twigs.

Thanks Ric, as for telling the boys from the girls its rather easy. The male when returning to the nest often tries to fit in a quickie before going back to work. Its pretty easy to identify the male after that transaction.

Thanks Dennis, down here in Florida we got GBHs all over the place all year round. and many of them are very tolerant of humans.

Nice set as usual, Harry. Looks like you're getting some time in on that 200-400 before the big Africa trip.

Thanks, I am loving the 200-400. I used to lose a number of captures when I was shooting with primes (the 500mm and 300mm). The 200-400 gives me good reach and flexibility. The IQ is a tad better than the 300mm but but not quite as good as the 500mm.
