That's a great series Ziggy, the last one is a good moment in the game.

I have never shot under floodlights and I can see that you got great shots in very difficult lighting conditions.

If you don't mind a very tentative suggestion, perhaps you could try using iso 3200 for a few shots next time to get your shutter speed up and see if it helps to freeze the motion a little more.

If you find that the pics are a little noisy you could use noise ninja or a similar program.

    Shay.

70-210? I use a Sigma 70-200 and you can see my football here.

    Shay,

My dRebelXT only goes to ISO 1600, unfortunately. I could shoot in RAW and then push an extra stop, and some folks get great results that way, but right now I have limited storage, so I shoot JPG. I very much appreciate the suggestion.

I am saving my pennies for the 20D. iloveyou.gif

    Steven,

The Sigma 70-210mm, f2.8, is about ten years old, and isn't designed for digital cameras. This lens precedes the one you have. I got it for less than $200 and figured I'd give it a try. It was missing the front and rear caps and shade as well as the tripod ring. Still the glass looks clear and the images are very good. Focus is a little slow, but that is to be expected for this level of technology.

I have an e-mail in to Sigma to see if it can be re-chipped to work better with my dRebelXT.

One difference between the 70-200 and the 70-210 is that the 70-210 has an 82mm front end. This is a heavy son-of-a-gun and I use a medium sized video fluid head and tripod to hold it.

It looks like the Sigma 70-200, f2.8 is working well for you. I see some awfully nice shots. How do you like it for night action stuff?

    Follow up:

I got a rapid reply from Sigma and it (70-210) cannot be re-chipped.

Bummer! I guess this is a case of, "You get what you pay for."

It's still very good glass for what I paid so I am not terribly disappointed. This will probably accelerate my plans to acquire the newer Sigma 70-200mm, f2.8 or the Canon 70-200mm, f2.8L.

Now if could only remember where I keep my vast fortune?

Ah, during the time when I was away from photography. No wonder I'd not heard of it.

I like it, it's reasonably crisp and not horribly heavy. There are some times where auto-focus doesn't happen fast enough for me, but I'm not sure if that's the 70-200, the 10D, the combination or just the lack of light (it does happen more in night football than elsewhen). I'd like -300mm, I'd like f/1.8, but hey, I'd like a bowl of strawbery ice cream and some spare cash too yelrotflmao.gif

I think it's right next to mine. Let me know when you find 'em. thumb.gif
