Need Help Resurrecting Nikon CoolScanIII

Greetings. I've recently sorted and cataloged many years' worth of BW negs, many images of which have never seen the light of day. I'm very excited.

The last time I used my Nikon CoolscanIII (LS30) was about 6 years and at least one computer ago. It worked great then (and for many years previous for a ton of newspaper work).

I would love to get this thing running again, but here are my issues:

Scsi to USB (find the right cable or install scsi port in my Dell xps?)

Nikon's software is not compatible with my 64-bit OS (Vuescan is an option, or I could dedicate my lap-top for scanning purposes - aaargh, why would I want to do that when I have a great machine that is all set up for photos????)

Anyone know where I can get the correct scsi>usb cable (nikon says they no longer make 'em, or the attachment. I bought what I thought was the right one from Dell, but it doesn't work)

Thoughts? Advice?

A native SCSI card is generally best, if you can find one that is compatible. Dell should be able to help. USB-to-SCSI is notorious for not working correctly.

Hamrick's VueScan is an excellent hedge against obsolescence caused by operating system incompatibility.

Thanks, Ziggy. That's my next step, talking to Dell re installing scsi port in my computer. If I can get the computer to recognize the device I will then proceed with VueScan.
