Help across the pond in the UK

Hi Guys, I am trying to set-up an online gallery for selling aerial helicopter photographs of yachts taken at major sporting events. My next up and coming event will have 1800+ yachts competing, and I intend to photograph a good deal of them so my gallery will be rather large. I am hoping that any participators will be able to visit my site, type in their boat number/name and search whether we have any photos of them specifically... I have looked on smugmug's site for examples of sites that are searchable (with x1000's of photos in their galleries) but could not find the answer to my question...

I am hoping that in due course smugmug will team up with a UK print house for merch/prints as i think it is an exceptional service in the U.S, sadly not the case just yet, but we can keep fingers crossed.

Thanks in advance for any replies
Aucky

If you keyword the images correctly, they should be able to do a search of just your site and find their images. You may want to keyword them with the event title and date as well, then once you have multiple events, they can add to their search terms and get more specific results. I imagine that after multiple events just searching for a number will return images from multiple races.
WTB: 1GB and 512k CF cards.
I have a need for a decent # of these smaller cards. If you have multiple cards that would be great. I am located at zip code 35243 & 35255.

I think you'll be happy to know that the print services you desire are the number one priority to voters on our Feedback Forum-- see the top of the list here: http://feedback.smugmug.com/forums/17723-smugmug You can sign in & vote for it, but you don't really need to because it's already in the works; Andy says they're hard at work on it. About making your site searchable: there are lots of searchable sites around here. You can check out mine (link in my signature)-- I have multiple ways of searching, including a Top Keywords page (See my navbar), an All Keywords page, and search boxes at the top of each. I could put other search boxes around, but haven't done that yet. I don't do many events, but I have names of family members keyworded in on many of my photos & tons of other keywords. I've started adding some years to my keywords as well. I have lots of classic cars with model names and years, etc.

You may want to check on SmugMug's highest number of photos allowed per gallery (I don't recall what it is). Anyway, most people find that the galleries get rather unwieldy after more than about 10-15 pages or so. (that's 200 + photos, depending on the viewing mode) All the tools take longer to load if you have to wait for several hundred thumbs. And viewers tend to ignore pages further back in the gallery. I do have some huge galleries, but I typically split them up when I get a chance because they're just too hard to deal with. Good Luck! Check out the Help section on Keywording too-- the bulk keywording tool will be very handy for you once you get used to using it. ( Tools > Many Photos > Caption/Keyword ) Just be sure to preview all keyword changes/additions in the bulk keywording tool, or your changes won't be saved. First preview, then save. Also, if you don't know how to add the little search box to your site, you could post that question in the Customization forum. I think it's called #smugsearch, but I'm not sure. One last thing-- your own "All Keywords" page can be found by adding /keyword to the end of your own site name. Here's an example of what mine looks like: http://www.winsomeworks.com/keyword
