Self Shot For Business Card

Finally got my electronic cable release from Nikon. Decided to do a self shoot so I have a picture for a business card. I'm far from a handsome man, so the camera adds a nice touch, trust me!

Do you think this works for a business card or will people want to see my entire ugly mug?

Main (f8), Fill (f3.5), Hair (f8) and Back light (f5.6). Shot at f8/125 / 200ISO Jpg Fine.

I think it's a well-exectuted photo, but I wouldn't put it on a business card because A) shots of a photographer with his camera are pretty cliche, and B) if you're going to have photos on your business card, I think showing some examples of your best work will arouse more interest in potential clients than a photo of yourself.

Mug for sure. This photo will be about gaining the customer's trust, not getting a date. An honest, flaws 'n' all portrait is what is called for, no hiding behind the camera. That would also be saying that this is an equipment game, that the customer could just as well hire someone else with this camera.

I think I agree with the others. It's well-executed (although I find the hand in the foreground a bit dominant, and I'm aware of it being "staged" rather than "photographer in action"), but I think I'd go either for a more conventional "this is who I am in real life" shot, or your actual *work* on a business card. I think a self-shot on the card can work well, thing, but I'd prefer something more inviting that speaks to the photographer's approachability rather than "guy with a camera". Maybe it's possible to combine those ideas into one shot? naughty.gif

    Just my 2c :)

Thank-you all for the feedback and advice!

After pondering your opinions, instead of using my "mug", I think I will develop several different cards that are "type" specific and use a favorite shot on each.

    Thanks again

Basically that is what I have done, I have 6 versions of my cards with favorite shots of mine as the background.
