Venice Carnival advice needed please

Hi all,
I am from Australia and heading to Venice for the Carnival in February. I have two weeks off and am going with the primary goal of photography, I have been to Venice before.
I intend to be in Venice for at least for the first weekend and the last weekend of the carnival but really wanted to know what are the best days to photograph the masked participants when they pose near the water etc? Are they about during the week days between the start and finish of the carnival or mainly on the weekend. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
