Color space lost on upload

When uploading an image using an embedded color space, the color space information is lost - color space name as well as the embedded profile itself.
This is happening with images scanned by Nikon Scan (color space "Nikon AdobeRGB") and Silverfast (custom input profile for drum scanner produced using GretagMacbeth i1Match).
In web gallery, image shows with "Unknown color space".
Downloaded image through API seems to have lost all color space information as well as the embedded ICC profile.
I'm not sure what to expect here -
Ideally perhaps images should retain color space information and embedded profile?
Or images should be properly converted to sRGB on upload?
Or perhaps there should be a warning on upload if image is not sRGB and no conversion is available?
Best wishes,
Lars

Is there no way to use sRGB vs aRGB?

ie. Is SM just not processing the colourspace, or is it actually changing the files?

If images are uploaded with non-sRGB color profiles (eg, AdobeRGB, ProPhoto, etc), the original images converted from whatever color profile they are using to sRGB.

Interesting, and now that I look, it's clearly described in the help section as well. Thanks for the confirmation.
I'm a bit surprised but I guess the only alternative would to to convert a temporary image from the original every time you needed to generate a smaller size, or to store a genuine original file and a converted to SRGB image.
I always thought that "Original" images were untouched, but there is obviously some processing... Is just the colourspace stripped, or is there other processing? Is the jpg recompressed in this process - I'm aware the resolution isn't changed.

Generally, if no color-space conversion or rotations are done to an image, it will be a bit-for-bit exact duplicate of the original. I actually do this every week with all my images before deleting them off my cards. SM has never failed in well over 200,000 images. They have an extremely robust storage system.
