For once, the wind worked in our favor, and I absolutely love this shot:

It may not look that high up there, but she had to be a brave lady to get there! :)

Killer work Heather! I love the magic that you work to get your images to look the way you do :) Now I can't wait to see what you pull off this weekend!

#3 is the standout for me, but that's just because it resonates with me - I'm a sucker for the fashion look.

You should be proud of this work. It's wonderful.

Now a question, how long did you have for this shoot. Not post or anything just the time spent finding the locations, getting there, posing and shooting?
Was this done prior to the wedding day?

I love seeing images like yours, but in the few wedding I have second shot for there was a VERY limited time with the bride and or groom after the ceremony.

I am trying to determine the commitment needed by the couple to have the time to get shots like this.

    Thanks!!

    Sam

Heather... you rock star you! Awesome stuff!!! I don't care for her expression in 8. 14 would look better to me if she wasn't in the same focal plane as the bush. I think the bride between the bush and the lake and shooting through the bush for foreground blur would have been similar, but would have taken any attention away from the bush. That's all I got, and obviously a minor nit!! Every other one is a fave!!! And WOW is she a hottie! I really need to get back to checking for bush pilot jobs in Unalakleet!

    Yikes!!!

They are all stunners Heather...really well done.

I choose #4 as a favorite. The rustic location, the composition, the lighting and definately the way you chose to treat the image in post are all in perfect harmony. A lovely image for sure.

Many of these appear to have been shot at a fairly long focal length. I like that compression as opposed to the trendy wide angle approach.thumb.gif

She sure is a good looking bride.....and she made a great choice in photographers!!mwink.gif

I am to shoot a bridal set this week for my soon to be daughter -in-law. I came to "weddings" for inspiration. Sheesh...this just leaves me dumbfounded!rolleyes1.gif

This is the drool gallery right? OMGOSH they all look straight out of a magazine. Was this all in one day? How many people, cars etc does it take to do all of that?
What lens worked for what image.. pleeeeze...bowdown.gifbowbowdown.gif as we try to rub some of your awesomeness off on ourselves....

Thank you to everyone! I really lucked out with this bride. Get this: this is just her reception gown........... I can't wait to see her actual wedding gown in July! Her wedding is going to be a pretty lavish affair, by Alaska standards, that is for sure. (And I go to a lot of weddings, haha!)
    To answer some questions:
This was just an 1 1/2 hour bridal session...
We went to 3 locations, got winded out of one.. it was sooo dusty from the wind. And Sam, usually I schedule the bride's wedding day for her, (including when to get out of bed, lunch times, stuff that doesn't affect me directly etc) that way I get to tell her how much time she gives me, haha. Otherwise you get whatever time is left over, and that ends up being none or very little. So I am quite a bit more proactive with it.

I'll go back and add the lens info to the post. Just basically 2 lenses: 70-200 2.8 IS and the 24-70, since that is all I wanted to carry that day, haha. I prefer the 70-200, but when there isn't enough room in the spot I pull out the 24-70. So there you have it. No big secret. I used flash on 7 & 12 (no modifiers thanks to wind), and the rest were all natural light since it was so nicely overcast.

I know! And it would have also been fun to meet up and put a face to the name. But at least you'll have a gorgeous red headed bride to work with! Its not all bad, haha!

Very true. Meeting her in San Diego in two weeks to play Maid of Honor/wedding planner and check out the venue and tastings etc, should be fun. Thanks again for helping her out up there on such short notice! I hear they love the pictures.
