Sorry, this doesn't work for me. There are far too many distractions in this picture, and the couple's postures could mean almost anything. I don't get the sense of "it's over" at all. They could just be resting while waiting for a bus, and she might be rubbing at an itch on her neck or something. Distractions include the tape mark on the back of the bench near the lower right corner, the man in the black leather jacket on the right, the bright blue and red spots near the woman's head (looks like the rear end of a motorcycle), the figure in the white jacket at the left edge, and the irregularly-shaped onion-ring bokeh produced by your lens. The background is blurry but nowhere near blurry enough to eliminate these problems, and for that matter, street photography more often than not seems to keep everything in the frame in focus. The use of color here has pluses and minuses: the biggest plus is that the couple are both wearing red tops and have brown hair; the biggest minus is all the bright spots of color in the background, which might be less distracting in black and white. That's my 2c on this one.
good assessment craig d. I like the pic. I think adding a vignette would bring more focus to the subject. The matching color is good but black and white pics always add drama. you can also just desaturate the picture.
I hope you don't mind but here is an example of what I'm talking about.
Fair points. I was sloppy with this image. For one, I see something in the postures of the people (hence the title), but the scene is perhaps not as strong objectively. Secondly I did not analyze the image as thoroughly as necessary in terms distracting elements etc.. Nelson, thanks for the suggested processing, great improvements and very helpful. This is the great thing about forums - the opportunity to learn. Thanks!
I like the scene at the moment, but I am very curious to find out what happens when I see it back in a year or so.
