Decided to try Photomatix light to see whether or not I like it. I was trying to get some "withered" macro shots of mountain bluet blossoms for a dgrin challenge and here are my experiments. (I have other ideas for the challenge, which is probably for the best because these may look more wilted or drenched than withered.)

2. Spent

In contrast, here are 3 shots of the mountain bluet in its prime processed with LR3, not photomatrix. I hope to do some comparisons with the same images later, but would be interested in C & C as to the the different processing styles, DOF, focal point (leading petal vs center), etc.

I have been learning a lot from reading dgrin and exploring the photos here. One of the things that has really helped me with the macros was the tip to use live view and zoom in to focus manually. Still lots to learn while having fun along the way. Hope to try focus stacking sometime - especially with a flower like the montain bluet.

Thanks,
Gretchen
