I received an email today telling me about Perfect Layers plugin for Lightroom. It sounds like a nice option to be able work with layers and masking in LR without having to open the image in Photoshop.

Has any one tried this early preview version yet?

There is a thread for this. Of particular note, there is a link there to a blog post heavily critical of the plugin.

Basically, it seems that using the plugin is little different from exporting the image, editing in photoshop, and then re-importing it, except that the plugin provides only a tiny fraction of photoshops functionality.

Thanks for the feedback. I thought it might be one of those too good to be true deals. thumb.gif

This product is essentially useless for anyone who owns either Photoshop or Elements. Its over hyped behind belief. The plug-in from Jeffrey Friedl is vastly more interesting and useful:

Lightroom will actually have Layers only when and IF Adobe produces them.
