Must have:

Glass of water (or wine).
Good music (more on that later)
My chair. It ain't the best, but it'll do.
Upstairs door closed. Signals "leave me alone"
Heater by my feet. My "office" is in the "basement"
Clean keyboard/mouse. Freak.

Current favorite music to edit by:
Ray LaMontagne (God Willin' and the Creek Don't Rise)
Hey Marseille (To Travels and Trunks)
Avett Brothers (I and Love and You)
Mumford and Sons (Sigh No More)
Ha Ha Tonka (Death of a Decade)
The Head and the Heart (The Head and the Heart)
Ages and Ages (Alright You Restless)
Zoe Muth (Zoe Muth and the Lost High Rollers)

Aside from the software, the music is the most essential.

How about you?

at least 1/2 gallon of green tea/w cardamon
music.....a mix of Buddhist music and chants intermingled with Indian (eastern) and pakistani traditional music ( no bollywood stuff), intermingled with Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, emerson lake and Palmer and other electronica along with Jethro Tull and some Stones....

Chair is a leather swivel reclining office chair add to that my tablet with long usb cable and I am pretty well set......I can process either upright or reclined.....window directly behind my 'puter is wide open all winter...but closes in early march and A/C is then set to 49-50*F.....I loves the cold.......

EDIT... I forgot Processing clothing.....which is extremely important......cut off shorts any kind...jean shorts, sweatpant shorts, swim trunks...any kind.....and a sleeveless t- shirt.......and then most importantly barefoot......in the cooler season as I sit and process, I keep processing until my feet a almost numb from the cold air pooring into the room from the window behind the computer, then I get up stretch and bend...do a little jogging in place ...brew a cut of hot green tea drink and resume processing...this insures I do not sit more than 2 hrs at a time and get up and move around to make sure no blood clots form from sitting way too long.......without this I can sit and process for upto to 18 -20 hours which my Drs. have warned me against..............

    1. Start playing some Springsteen very loud
    2. Light up a Cuban cigar
    3. Open up a bottle of beer
    4. Close the door of my office (the closed door and the loud music drowns out the expletives as I review my files).
    5. start processing

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Here's what I usually have on hand:

    -Fresh cup of coffee
    - Music depends on my mood at the moment--anything from the 70's, jazz, classical, movie soundtracks, modern pop, or no music at all.
    - 1 or 2 cats close by to check my work. One likes to spread out across my desk, the other likes to melt into an overstuffed chair in the corner of my office.
