There has been very little rain here in western North Carolina in the past few weeks. That's good in a way because it's been a wet summer and some of the waterfalls have had too much water in them. Anyhow, here are a few from the past 2-3 weeks.
The 1st is White Owl Falls - it's a small waterfall but I like the way the water flows over the rock.
Next is Whitewater Falls - at 411', it's one of the tallest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River. I'm hoping to get back here for a nice fall color shot.
This past Saturday, we did a wicked bushwhack up Sam Branch in the Pisgah National Forest. The sun was just peeking above the tree line and the beams were shining through the light mist. There are some blown highlights, but I did the best I could. If you would like to see more photos from this trip, you can click here.
Boren Mill Shoals is a waterfall on land being developed for a private gated community - no poor people allowed. I went in anyway and will probably end up in trespasser's hell :grim .
Thanks for looking!

Light and soft look to the slow shutter water look great.
I knew, of course, that trees and plants had roots, stems, bark, branches and foliage that reached up toward the light. But I was coming to realize that the real magician was light itself.

...who cares? Not me! I love it.

All are nice, but:
The comp in #1 is wonderful and very relaxing. Nice choice of shutter speed, neither too fast nor too slow. #3 needs to be printed and hung on the wall. The highlights are not distracting to me at all. It all looks quite natural.
Thanks for sharing,

wonderful shots, as usual. I really like the first photo, small waterfall or not. And the third one is great! It was a very difficult situation with high contrasts, but you handled it very well. The perspective, the trees and the light are just sweet!

I really appreciate it. I'll probably get a test print done of #1 and #3 to see if I can add it to the images I offer for sale. I was out again this afternoon and will try to post some stuff. Fall color is beginning to creep in to the higher elevations!
Lindsay, I used to live in Raleigh but couldn't stand only getting up here a few times each year. In 2003 I couldn't stand it any more and moved to Asheville. It's one of the best things I've ever done for myself! Hope you can make it up soon.

Until I started shooting waterfalls, I never paid much attention to the flow.
It's amazing how landscape photography fine tunes your senses to the splendor of Mother Nature.
Oh, good job also on the Boren Mills Shoals caper. Gotta stick it to the rich whenever we can!
