No warning message when editing a virtual copy

We used to encounter some type of message when attempting to edit keywords or captions of a virtual copy of a photo (Collected, or Smart Gallery image). The message would let us know that word changes we made to that image were going to also change the original. I'm not encountering that now. I just tried changing a caption, & nothing told me it would change the original. Those messages are important, as many people still are not aware of the limitations of virtual copies. Also, there have often been times in the past where I myself had forgotten I was in a virtual gallery or dealing with a virtual copy... they are even less noticeable now since they can be moved. We still have no identifying marks on a virtual gallery to inform us, so there's no way to tell at all unless you notice the "See photo in original gallery" statement.

Specifically and exactly, which editing tool - which gallery are you working with - and can you be more precise about what the message said? I don't recall that message, to be honest.

Like I said, if editing a caption or keywords... on any photo that's a virtual copy... I thought the message said something like, "changing this virtual copy will change its original..." or whatever. That's what the message says (or something very similar) on all the other editing tools such as "color effects", "watermarking", "crop", "crop thumbnail", or any other tool that would change the original as well. Even if my memory rots and keywords- or captions-editing never had that message... the main point is, it needs to have it. That message on all the other tools has saved me countless times from doing something I wouldn't have wanted to do. (P.S. Andy, I'd edited my post & titles can't be edited, or I'd have changed the title to say "No warning message when editing a virtual copy's keywords or captions" )

Hi Anna Lisa, I don't think we ever did it with keywords or captions - but with color effects, cropping, etc, yes

Yep, I know it's all good w/ the warning messages on the other tools. Those are perfect. Just saying that keywords/captions needs it too -- it's a change that you can inadvertently make & not realize you're affecting your originals. So if there never was a warning message (although I'm almost 100% sure there used to be one for captions at least) we really do need one!

For anyone reading this, a related issue is not having virtual galleries (Smart Galleries) or virtual photos (collected photos) identified easily for the gallery owner. I have an as-yet-not-voted-upon feature request here, and would love more support for this: http://feedback.smugmug.com/forums/17723-smugmug/suggestions/716054-make-it-clear-that-it-s-a-smart-gallery-at-the-top It's been a real problem for me in my huge long list of galleries, so I've had to make my own ugly workaround & label them with a "V" or "C" that everyone sees.
