IRONMAN Texas

I've been a little busy the past half-year training for my second run at an IRONMAN finish. The first one some 15 years ago I took a disposable camera to record the journey. Well, this past weekend I again brought along a cheap disposable camera to record the journey. From a quality perspective, they suck. For six bucks you get 27 shots of a crapshoot. But from the artistic side, I'm sort of digging the gritty, grainy feel to them and being somewhat rough based in the reality of what an IRONMAN triathlon is.

So here's a few shots from my perspective - the athlete. Now remember, this little camera sat out the 2.4 mile swim (I didn't get the waterproof one and had no where to carry it), but it made the 112 mile bicycle trek in my jersey pocket, then was along for the 26.2 mile run. And it's safe to say that I was a sweaty mess, it was humid Saturday, and much of that made it's way to the little plastic fish-eye lens. Yet it adds something to the shots....

Thanks for the comments... They certainly do provide a different perspective than from the sidelines shooting athletes, eh?

I'm pretty much fully recovered now yet need to still lay low for another couple weeks or so before serious mileage again.

First congrats on finishing. I am not sure I would get through the swim.

I like the pictures as they capture a feel that a "perfect" image would not.

    Thanks for the comments.

I was just surfing this afternoon and came across this post which still put a smile on my face. On a side note, I'm still maintaining my half-IM distances, contemplating a local half-IM distance race. If I do it, I think I'll try the waterproof camera this time. :D

Congrats on your finish! And I agree that these are gritty in a good way. Great perspective and lots of happy faces!
