have looked in the usual places but no availability:rolleyes ..

I can confirm that they are out-of-stock at most of the best places. Adorama will allow you to order now and they will ship when they get stock but with no idea about availability.

You might consider a B+W +2 (500mm focal length, like the Canon 500D), 77mm:

I think it's a single element design but still pretty good quality.
