TC vs IQ

I just added a Sigma 120-300 2.8 DG for my Nikon D300. I was shooting with a 70-200(next to newest version) with a Nikon TC 1.4 II. I didn't lose much in IQ.

Does anyone have experience with the Sigma 120-300 with the Sigma TC 1.4? I'm wondering how the IQ holds up. What about the 2.0?

thanks,
Chris

I like f5 and above for using the 1.4 TC on the Sigma 120-300 and D300 Combo. There is a slight loss of IQ, but only other photographers would notice. I don't bother with the 2.0 anymore as I get better results just cropping when using the 1.4 TC.

Here is a sample with a 1,4 TC and Sigma 120-300/D300.

    This one is wicked sharp!

FWIW, I rented a Nikon TC2II to try out on my 70-200 VRII. It sort of sucked. AF tracking went down the tubes when doing some random testing with my dogs running around the yard. So with the compromised AF the IQ went down the tubes. But, for something non moving, like a lot of wildlife, not too bad. But for this dolphin shot? Hell no. I do get pretty good results with a Tamron 1.4 though. I guess 2X might just be too much with a zoom.

Yeah same goes for Canon's teleconverters. 2x isn't worth it.
