"Kick.............The Ball!!!

Walking on Canon Beach last week landed me a few comic gems that I always keep. Here's one of another photographer, out for a walk with her two little doggies. I love the frozen action and rigidity of her dogs staring at the little red ball, waiting for her to kick it.

    Delete her :-)
In this image, and what I have gleaned from your description, the lady really in not part of, or does not help, the image. IF that is truly the case, I think if you cropped all the way to either right above her knees or right below them, it would really make the image better in a intellectual way. thumb.gif

    Very crisp image though clap.gif

That crop wouldn't have occurred to me, but I like the idea. I would go for just above the knees, preserving the thin line of the breaking wave but eliminating the darker surf lines.

I don't agree and like it quite like it is. Thanks for your observations though.

Hmmm.... I sort of like it the way it is. I've imagined the crop at the knees but somehow I'm the one that gets a bit lost at that point. I think the lady looking down at the ball makes her relevant and adds context as you know the impending action to come with that interaction.

The lady's stare downward leads the viewer's eyes through the photograph first to the ball and then to the dogs. Chopping her off at the knees seems silly to me. If you take portraits of your family do you chop their heads off? rolleyes1.gif

Well, sometimes, but usually not on purpose. lol3.gif

Dunno. The lady seems to be looking at what on enlargement appears to be a lens cap in her hand. At first I thought it was a cell phone. The dogs, on the other hand, are clearly looking at the ball. As a conventional shot, I suppose it's OK as is. I guess I like the quirkiness of Mr. Quiet's suggestion. ne_nau.gif

OK, I put the pic at the top and just scrolled down to 'crop' it above the knees using my browser frame as a rough idea. I can see how it's sort of hip/cool in that respect if you're wanting a wide aspect shot for a certain application.

No contest, crop the top 60% off, and it's a wonderful picture. Otherwise, it's a photo of a photographer looking at her lenscap/cellphone

You're blowing this way out of proportion. It's a candid shot of a lady playing with her dogs on a beach. I'm not selling it or entering it in a contest and I'm certainly not going to chop any bodies off at the knees. I've seen my share of those on the website of someone posting on this thread. Laughing.gif Seems to be a kinky fetish. "Off with their heads"! ROFL

Hey, I haven't posted in this thread yet! mwink.gif I cut heads and body parts off left, right and centre. Sometimes intentionally, other times not. I like using body language in the storytelling when possible.

Just out of curiosity, were you hoping for critique when posting the image or just sharing? Mr Quiet uses critique to learn and try out new ideas. He was a regular in the old whipping post, nae refinery.

+1, I did the same and IMHO it dramatically improves the picture removing the busy clutter present in the top half of the frame. In the lower half the dogs are very clearly looking at the ball and the angle of the foot and leg clearly indicate that the ball is about to be kicked. You get the same idea as the OP wanted in a much simpler cleaner way.

    ...for whatever that is worth.
