Right I originally set up a blog link on the nav bar of my site but decided to change it to Motor Sport as I wanted to re arrange my site a little. Have managed to upload 3 sets to my Motor Sport section direct from my my PC using smugmug uploader, but when I go to move some sets from my Events area within my web site, I click on move but cannot see the motor sport area to move them too. Strange thing is I can still see my blog entry on the pull down. Any ideas ?

Thanking you in advance.

Grant

FWIW I can't see the blog entry on your menu bar, I can only see the Motor Sports.

Whenever I start having this stuff that drives me mad I tend to change browser for a bit in case it is something completely unrelated to the site e.g. the browser or the cache. Often, but not always, that stops me going mad. (e.g. I had an issue yesterday that was IE9 related rather than site related - not Smugmug I hasten to add)

Yep that';s correct as I said on the menue bar it shows Motor sport and it was shawing when I uploaded new pictures to it. But when I try and move a set from my events area within my web site to the motor sport area it does not show on the move too drop down ( ie I cannot see Motor Sport ). In essence I select all photo's to be moved from the Thruxton International Challenge Race Meeting 7-8th August 2010 click move to gallery select all and then use the choose existing gallery, it is then I cannot see the Motor Sport area.

Hope that makes a little more sense :D

Yep. As I can't see exactly how you are doing it I'm going to guess that you may be 'moving' things in the wrong way. I think that you may have created a Motor Sports category and that your events are actually galleries. Then what you want to do is edit the settings for each gallery and change the category to 'Motorsports'. The move function is to move photos between galleries rather than move whole galleries.

Or maybe I have the wrong end of the stick ne_nau.gif

I think you may be right, but god knows how i put it right. What i want is a motorsport section on the top bar and then two cats one for cars and one for bikes, then i can down load each event to iether or. I need some help on this as I really do not know what Iam doing. :cry

It gets worse I've now screwed my nature and wildlife section and lost all my fauna and flora. Not happy at all.

I think you are already very close. For each Gallery you can set both a Category and a subcategory. You appear to have already been able to successfully create a MotorSports category and assign three galleries to it - Thruxton, Harley Davidson and National Super Stock. You can check that that is correct by going in to any of those three, selecting Tools/Gallery Settings and then seeing what Category is selected under the Essentials settings. My guess is that you have MotorSports there.

If that is correct then you are at the trickier bit - you want to assign a subcategory of cars and bikes to further divide it. Now that is completely possible but I would like to suggest that you don't go down that route. I think you would be much better just having two top level categories of 'Motor Sports-Cars' and 'Motor Sports-Bikes'. The reason is that at the moment you don't have many galleries but as you start to fill up you will need to find a place to archive the stuff that isn't so current and then you can use the subcategories. If you look at our site we have placed the current galleries for Afghanistan in the Afghanistan category (http://photos.miseast.org/afghanistan) and then for the older stuff we have created subcategories by year so at the bottom of the page you will see archives of 2008, 2007. As we start to fill up the category we just move the older galleries into the archives by changing their subcategory to 2008, 2007 etc. If you already use your subcategories for cars and bikes that is no longer an option :(

    So, what I would do:
    1. In your control panel/customise I would rename category 'Motor Sports' to 'Motor Sports-Cars'
    2. While you are there add a new category of 'Motor sports-bikes'
    3. I'm assuming that you used the Easy Customiser to create your header menu so go to control panel/customise/easy customiser then go to 'header' then 'navigation bar' then 'navigation bar builder'
    4. Add a new name of 'Motor sports bikes' and set the URL to your motor sports bikes url -(http://www.gautonphotography.com/MotorSportBikes?)
    5. Go to a gallery of bikes and change the category to 'MotorSportsBikes'
    6. See if that gallery has moved to being under the MotorSportsBikes menu

Try that and see how it goes
It gets worse I've now screwed my nature and wildlife section and lost all my fauna and flora. Not happy at all.

You seem to have successfully managed to use categories and subcategories there so I'm a little confused as to what you are concerned about. Flaura and Fauna are now both subcategories of Nature and Wildlife which is possibly what you are looking for.

    Now about watermarking.... :)

Thanks for taking the time to reply much apreciated. I managed to fix the Nature section, somehow the URL changed. I don't have a huge selection of motor sport as I only really play at it, but would like to copy the way I have set out the nature an wildlife with two sub cats. So in essence the nav bar will say motor sports and then two sub cats one for bikes and on for cars, then I can upload each event as it happens.

Can you do some noddy instructions like above to direct me me, I think I have created the top level motor sports but am struggling with creating the subs and then moving the 3 sets I already have to it.

    cheers

I have emailed support but noone has come back to me.

You've nailed it - well done. Once you put the 'Fuchs-Silkoline British Supersport Thruxton 28-30th May 2011' into the bikes subcategory then you will only have Bikes and Cars under motor sport which I think was what you are looking for.clap.gif
