canon 5D and picture styles

you can't get them on your 20d but you can apply them thru dpp i think.

I looked at the Canon link and it looks to me like styles are simply a marketing term to replace parameter sets (which sounds a bit geeky). Is this true, or am I missing something important here? I suppose it would be convenient to have more sets available on the camera (or selectable in software), but otherwise I don't see much that's new here.
