Sharp enough for me. Now to go find some critters! Woo-hoo! New toy. Visa card is gently smoking.

Sure enough. But it looks a lot like the 300 f/2.8 Nikkor. :D

The lens is very sharp which is a good news. However, the AF system is rather slow. I used it few time and decided to go with the Canon 800mm instead. Best of luck!

Hmmm . . . I haven't noticed that yet with the D300 or D700. I'll be on the lookout. Seems pretty snappy so far.

Congrats on the new glass. Having the 500mm reach opens new vistas for wildlife photography. The Nikon 500mm does focus faster but the question is if that difference is significant enough to spend $3K more for the Nikon version.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Well, I might spend a couple hundred extra for marginally faster focus, and a couple hundred for VR, and a couple hundred more for an extra third of a stop, but that still leaves me $2400 to the good.

Hey! What am I gonna do with all the money I saved?? Hmmm . . .

I've had this lens for three or four years now. It's awesome. I love it. It just needs a sturdy tripod although I have shot it without a tripod with good results too. You'll enjoy it. thumb.gif
