What (you might reasonably ask) is exciting about a Grey Catbird? Well if it's the first critter to come under the gaze of my new glass, it's EXCITING TO ME!!

Here's the uncropped image (OK, it's a prosaic pose) . . .

. . . and here's a 100% crop. Oh my!!!

I think I'll be keeping it. :D:D:D

Looks a bit over-sharpened and noticeably in the grainy OOF areas from it. That's such a sweet lens that IMO you don't need to apply any post sharpening unless its very fine, like a .2 pixel unsharp mask or something... otherwise it's actually a bit much and noticeable.

Congrats on the lens too... I'm in the market soon as well for a super telephoto. Somewhere between 400-600 would be my ideal range and I'll definitely consider this glass now :)

I actually did less than "normal" sharpening to it. I think what you're seeing as oversharpening is characteristic of catbird plumage. ne_nau.gif

Well the noise/grain in the OOF areas looks like it's been sharpened. Maybe its just OOC camera noise that makes it look like it's been sharpened but it hasn't. What ISO was it? If it is just ISO noise it looks like... ~1600-2500
