Full disclosure: I replaced the BG, and I suck at selections and masks. :D That being said, I think she's magnificent!

All I can say is wow! The feather detail is incredible. She's one pretty lady.

As long as you went to the effort of BG replacement, I think you could have added some space to the left and a bit on top for a more pleasing comp.

Being Picky Ricky, I would have worked on the eye to remove the reflection and brighten it a bit.

    That said....excellent shot, John.

Thanks Ric. Actually, the crop is purposeful. I like it this way. If I place a mat around a print, it'll be just what I wanted. But you raise a good point. I could easily have left more "dead space" and cropped into it for display. I didn't do that, so now I'm limited, unless I felt like going through the trouble of cloning in about an acre of BG, which I don't. And personally, I'm pleased as punch with the eye reflection. Dif'rent strokes, I guess thumb.gif.

John, she is magnificent! I think you are pretty darn good at selections and masks. I didn't realize it was possible to select such fine feathers as on her topnotch. Best, Pam

Thank you Pam. Photoshop CS5's "refine mask" feature is (almost) worth the price of admission alone. It has taken me a long time to get where I am, but I know from seeing other folks results that I have a long way to go. I know that with CS3, I would not have even attempted to try this BG replacement.
