Rock Creek Lake

We drove up the road on May 24 even though we knew it would end in 4 foot snow drifts and the trailheads would be inaccessible. It was bright and cold and the air so clear it was amazing. The ice on the lake is just breaking up.



I think the lake is at 8000 feet or so, but it's still caught in the grip of winter more tightly than other spots at the same elevation. You'd really need to love winter to live near here.

8k feet is really nothing to sneeze at. But it's cool to see snow that late in the year

yeah it was cool, but also frustrating. it literally blocked access to a lot of stuff we would have like to do and see. oh well, at least Mono Lake was clear!

Why Rock Creek Lake? Where you just site-seeing (saw your Mono Lake photo)? Never thought Rock Creek Lake was a tourist spot...! One of my favorite sunset was captured at that campground. Unfortunately, mobility was an issue then and I could get to the lake to capture it better.

eh just 'cause. My husband wanted to drive up there and we had the time. It was ok and I found my favorite tree of the trip - an enormous incense cedar. Great tree.
