Uploading affected if screen is turned off?

This seems odd, and I haven't tested much, but I've run into this a few times before and am wondering if anyone else has. I started an upload using HTML 5 before I went off to bed. When I looked at it (soon after starting) 9 files had already loaded & it was trucking along just fine. So I turned off my screen & went to bed. When I woke up, the upload was still churning & churning and hadn't gotten past those 9 files. It was churning on 10, 11, 12, etc. I know I used to turn off my screen with no problem (before HTML 5), but I think it's been a problem in the last number of months. If so, I wonder if it's just HTML 5 or all the uploaders that would have this issue now. Has anyone noticed this? I don't have time for a lot of testing now & will just have to upload some with the screen on. For those who understand these systems better-- should this be an issue? Maybe it's just a normal thing & I just wasn't aware... if so, I'll just adjust my habits permanently. If not, SmugMug may want to look into it after I've had time to check it out more.

As long as your computer isn't going to sleep when you're away, it should run to completion unattended.

Thanks, John. In general, turning off the screen shouldn't make it go to sleep, right? I mean, could it be that my newer system takes that as a sign that it should go to sleep? (I wasn't the first one at my computer this morning or other times, & didn't think to ask anyone if it had gone to sleep.... they didn't touch my uploads page though; it was still open) Maybe my old system reacted differently to the screen being turned off. Come to think of it, I think I've also had uploads stop recently when I minimized the page, and that too was not a problem in the past. Could be just one uploader is affected by these things though. HTML 5 does seem finickier with some odd things, for whatever reason. (such as not being able to upload whole folders & needing them manually selected instead) Well, I guess I just have to test it at some point.

The different uploaders could very well have different behavior in this regard as they use very differently technology (Java, Flash, HTML5) and that different technology could respond differently to different system conditions.

Turning off the monitor should have no affect on the computer as best I know.

Maybe unrelated but I've had much better luck recently with the flash uploader. I uploaded a video 3 times with the html 5 uploader, with problems each time. The first time uploaded only a segment of my video, don't know why but only 2 1/2 minutes out of nine showed up. The second time I received an error about file replacement format, which was the exact same format and file btw. And then finally I deleted the original and uploaded again, once again only 2 1/2 minutes were processed. After that I went to the flash uploader which seemed to solved my video upload problems.

Each of the uploaders have different ways of approaching video, and some may crash or do strange things while others will work fine. ne_nau.gif I can crash the html5 one anytime on a large video (300mb+) while Simple uploads the same file fine.
