Ok i was never able to convince HP/DELL in Pakistan to import IPS panels, and they were asking for double price on special import. I just left the chase until Thursday i googled HPZR24w again! wow there was one guy selling it, where? just 250km away from me and few blocks away from my friend's place... sent friend to location and it was a shop keeper who buy computer monitors from port city, where large containers of computers are sold and brings in home town, he had no clue what IPS is or how HPZR24w is better than rest of his stock. All testing done viewing angle tested and sent to me, now i have it:thumb only 50hours run time which i think is acceptable paid 220$ :wink everything perfect. :lust

here is question
It has Display Port input. and my laptop has an HDMI output (dvi is occupied with desktop), i googled but couldn't get right information, should i get HDMI to DP convertor or simple cable would do the job? i only need video no sound necessary.

Asking because last week i got HDMI to VGA cable and later found it also requires special adapter, same case here?

Thanks in advance.....

simple cable is enough , you can use vga , but dvi is better , both are supported
as you can see upon booting , the monitor detects it automatically
    [ i have the same monitor ]

    vga

    hdmi

    Yes, try VGA first.

I'm aware of various converters and I think HDMi to Displayport is available but I suspect your laptop will output either 1920x1080 or 1280x720 over the HDMI. This will not match the ZR24w's 1920x1200 resolution.

Awais, the cable you're looking for is this one, which uses the DVI-D port rather than the mini-display port. It doesn't really matter except that this kind of cable is much easier to find. I imagine Monoprice doesn't ship to you, but the link should at least show you what you're looking for.

My Laptop has no VGA port, Dell XPS L501x.
So HDMI won't send required resolution? i see there is Custom resolution mode in nvidea control panel.

Since you recommend using HDMI to DVI, should i get following DVI splitter http://www.amazon.com/DVI-Splitter-Cable-shielded-Connectors/dp/B000FI5KWA/ref=pd_sim_e_6
and use one for Desktop and other for laptop so i don't have to unplug desktop all the times i want to use laptop?

    thanks a lot

    look at the bottom side
    all connections are there
just buy the cable required by your pc
    no need for adapter
left to right = hdmi , dvi , vga

you dont need hdmi for photo editing

    dvi is recommended and common
allmost all graphic cards have it
if yours dont , then you need an adapter
if thats not possible either , then use vga
