Things are slowing down a bit so I thought I would start sharing some more of my track pics from this really shortened season.

This thread will contain 4 of my best hurdle shots.

Shot with my trusty Canon 50D and my Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS at around 1/2000 to 1/800 – ISO 250 and cropped to 4 X 6 format.

I think I've said it before, but hurdles really do best verticle. I suppose it depends on your purpose as well. When I shoot track, I typically have a list of must have students, so I shoot them regardless of their position. If I show them loosing or looking bad the paper doesn't like to use them. Anyways, this is what I mean:

it's not the size of the lens that matters... It's how you focus it.

I'm with Sean. As with your track post, these photos just have way too much uninteresting dead space - too many hurdlers that aren't part of a compelling image or in the case of image 4, just plain dead space. It just seems like you're taking the easy way and framing so loose because it's less difficult. But the problem is the resulting images are less compelling than they could be. Image 4 is 135mm with lots of dead space. 200mm with vertical composition would have been a much more compelling image.
