It's been a long time since I've had time to post anything. I shot state track a couple weeks ago and thought I'd share a few here.

They are all great shots but the hurdler just stands out above the rest.

Good stuff. I always like sports photos in the rain. Were these shot with the Nikkor 200-400 f/4??

Day one was rained out. The remaining days were fairly sunny. The 200-400 f4 is my favorite toy these days.

Good work. I like 1 and 4 best.

5 is good but I try to shoot from other side of jump. Tend to get face better.

I have not a criticism but a question about the framing in #5. It looks cool with him filling the frame up like that, but since it's a high jump, it seems to me shooting wider and in portrait to include a bit of the ground in it might be important to give context as to how high he's jumping. Like how one of the rules of thumb here about sports with a ball is to get the ball and the player, in a sport where the whole point is jumping off the ground, should it include the ground?

Maybe. My point with #5 was the background as much as the athlete. I've never included the ground or any such details as you just wind up getting a big mat in the background. Without a frame of reference for height, it's tough to judge anyways. You can achieve the whole story this way, but the angle to catch their face isn't always great.

This kid set a state record at 6'10". He missed this jump.
