I just got back from a trip to the mountains where I had planned to try out a new telescope. I brought the 300/2.8L, the Telescope and a new-to-me Tamron SP 28-80/3.5 Macro (27A). This may well be the sharpest zoom I own now. Needless to say i ended up spending most of my time shooting with it. I know, I'm easily impressed. but man... :)

#03 - 80mm f/4 - which is wide open for 80mm on this lens (it nudges via zoom to f/4.2 I think).

Tamron lenses are largely underrated, IMHO. my most-used lens is a Tammy 24-135 f/3.5-4.5 which lives on my 5D. it's no longer in production, unfortunately, but it offers a perfect all-round focal range, and the optical quality is outstanding. it was an old film lens originally, so it's designed for FF bodies, and i've been very pleased with its performance. i also have Tamron's 17-35 f/2.8-4 zoom, which is not as sharp, but does provide a good ultra-wide for those times when i need it. not as good as Canon's 16-35 or 17-40, but acceptable.

Thanks for the information! Was the 24-135mm one of Tamron's "SP" lenses?

Not really "Landscapes" but here's two taken with the same 27A lens but in macro-mode. I wasn't counting on doing any insect macros so this is only available light, near f/4.0, and at ISO 100:

#04 - That flower is approximately 1.5cm ~ 1.7cm so I guess this little guy is about 8mm ± 2mm, in body length.

#05 - Slightly OOF but I like the image OK. (I wonder what this thing is called - they sure were orange... )

These are about 60% crops BTW.

Back on the Landscape track a little bit... :D

Here's some more with the same lens taken on the same day. :) I think these are still all at f/4.0 - again unless the zoom was at 80mm where it nudges it over to 4.2.

415 reads and only one comment. I dunno, but something tells me that the DG bunch just spends way too much time commenting on posts. :D

The number of views isn't relevant because it counts things like search engine bots, guest viewers, etc.I see you've got quite a few comments on other threads of yours, so these things happen.

It's always interesting to see different parts of Japan, especially places that most visitors don't go. I really love the red bridge shot in particular. thumb.gif

Not to seem too argumentative :) but I modded a very busy forum which was also crawled and allowed "visitors" etc. To my embarrassment I'll admit spending hundreds of hours monitoring activity and figuring out such correlations. There's a pretty direct correlation between number of views, number of posts, post frequency, and number of responses. At now, 530 views with only one response there is a meaning. Unless there is something abnormal (unusual) about how DG is used and given that re-reads do not increment the counter here, it means approximately 60 to 80 registered users viewed the thread per post - given a post frequency of 1 hour or more. :) Typically about 70%~80% of the per-post revisits are the same users checking back in. Even in the most conservative estimations this would imply that about 120 ~ 150 registered users have viewed the thread - and that, besides yourself, only one person was interested enough to type something - for whatever reasons. :)

It's all good tho... Don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining. Just being anally "correct". :D If I'm right it'll mean the view count will go from about the 530 that is is now to about 600 or real close... before it scrolls off page one of the thread listings. ;) (given no one else replies before that of course.) rolleyes1.gif

I'm not much on the first three (or the bug shots for that matter) - but do however, really like the architecture shots in your post #5 (would help if you numbered your shots to reference specifics). well, you did ask for feedback right deal.gif

Yup I did! :) And i thank you for it too! Thank you. I added numbers as you suggested as well - something I often forget to do.
