What's wrong with this video?

The audio is messed up. Take a listen to it. Is it not totally finished processing (even though it's visible for playback now)? Or is it just ruined? The source file still plays fine locally on my PC.

Thanks

FYI...it works fine after uploading to youtube. Is the one I uploaded to smugmug ruined then? Start over (long upload time :-( )

I had this problem with garbled audio. It's probably not ruined. But the only solution I found (suggested by SmugMug) is: I sent it directly to the HelpDesk via the "Send to SmugMug" option (I think that's how I did it... it's been awhile). I told them what gallery I wanted it uploaded to, and they were able to upload it fine for me. I'd check with the helpdesk on this... it's probably the fastest option for solving it. When I tried uploading mine a 2nd or 3rd time, the problem still existed. There's also a video forum here on DGrin, but I won't be surprised if they tell you the same thing.

Bummer. I uploaded others of the exact same type with no problems. I tried it a second time and same problem. Surely I won't have this problem every single time now if the video is of a certain size or length? It's less than 2 minutes long I think, but the file is 271MB (WMV type converted from MTS (AVCHD). Like I said, worked fine on Youtube.

I don't know; I'm not very familiar with video file types, etc... but like I said, the video forum here could give you better details, possibly. And "Help" (to their credit) was very quick to rectify it for me when I asked.

    Hi,

It seems to be using a windows media audio format that's not supported at this point. It should upload fine if you convert the video to mp4 instead of wmv using the Free HD Converter from:
    www.koyotesoft.com

or you can try uploading the MTS file as it is. If the uploader doesn't recognize it, rename the file to mp4 extension.

If you only converted it to make it upload quicker, I wouldn't. Just upload the raw clip. In theory, the quality should also be unnoticably better. The other thing would be to choose a different audio codec when transcoding it as it seems like the audio codec is the issue.

I can upload individual clips as MTS but the problem is if I want to string together more than one clip, at the moment all I have to do that is Windows Movie Maker which converts everything to WMV. It does make the file smaller too. I've looked into various video editing software but for the moment I don't have a real need to use anything other than the very basic Windows Movie Maker. I imagine smugmug will support this format in the future. If so, I guess I can wait for that. The odd thing though is I do have some other WMV files uploaded that play fine...but they are more of a slideshow with photos added and music. It's not a video from a camera that was converted to WMV. Here's a working example of the WMV format working fine as a slideshow with music: http://www.openbloom.com/VACATION-AND-SHORT-TRIPS/Smoky-Mountains/9197497_ct3Fw#799430747_ah2va

I'd use x-avidemux. Very basic, free, portable software that can do the job easily and won't have a problem uploading to SM. thumb.gif
