I am very close to buying a new lens for my 5d2 and i am stuck between the 24-105L or the 24-75 f2.8L. I dont need the reach of the 105 but am i making the right choice for taking pictures of people and their classic cars with the 24-70L?

If you don't need the reach, then the 24-70 is the better of the two. Just make sure you get a good copy.

For people, I assume portraits? If, so, the biggest advantage of the 24-105 is the 105mm for it's perspective, which is more flattering than 70mm.

Image quality is a wash between the two as you can see here: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/ISO-12233-Sample-Crops.aspx?Lens=355&Camera=453&Sample=0&FLI=3&API=0&LensComp=101&CameraComp=453&SampleComp=0&FLIComp=3&APIComp=2 (Test it at various apertures and focal lengths to see what I mean.)

The 24-105 has image stabilization, the 24-70 does not. The 24-70 is an old design and likely to be updated by Canon soon. The 24-105 is a recent design. Unless you need the range between F2.8 and F4, I'd get the 24-105. It an all around more versatile lens, especially on a full-frame body.

The 24-105 is a good choice for automotive photography. (Unless you want bokeh)

Thanks everyone for all of your help. Unfortunatly here in ireland we do suffer from bad light most of the year and this can hinder some of the shots i take for which a flash would not be able to reach. I really dont need the reach of a 105 lens and i do like to isolate my focus on certain parts of these vehicles. I do like to use natural light and this is the reason i will go for the 24-70.
