Starter HELP

I am about to create a Smug Mug Account. At first, I find the Smug Mug experience as overwhelming. There is a LOT (perhaps too much for a person just starting out). I am reading tons of information from Smug Mug that discourages me from getting started. I'd like to have an idea of how things work "before" I actually join.

Is there a "Getting Started" article a sort of Quick Guide to getting started with Smug Mug?

The best place to start is to create a free trial account. Then, go to the Easy Customizer (accessed from the Tools menu on your homepage) and browse through all the built-in customization options there where you just fill in the options you want without having to know any type of coding.

If you want to do something beyond that and a dgrin search didn't find you a straightforward answer, then post a specific question describing what you want help accomplishing.

It's hard for us to answer generic questions like "how does customizing on Smugmug work", but easy to answer specific questions like "how do I change the highlight color of my navbar".

You posted in dgrin support but you are asking questions about SmugMug, not about the forum. There are two forums that will be of interest as you are getting started, SmugMug Support, and SmugMug Customization.

You might want to start with the Easy Customizer - http://www.smugmug.com/help/create-photo-album.

There really isn't a quick guide, and to be honest, this is the nature of SM support--it's everywhere in different systems. If this intimidates you, and you don't want to deal with it, you will have difficulty customizing SM without hiring someone.

But the flip side to it is that if you are willing to learn and work with the help that is given, there's a lot you can do that you can't do on almost any other service for this price.
