I always wanted to try one of these and Taylor's been the one to occupy the idea from day one. We were finally able to get together and shoot and I'm pretty happy with the results.

Scootersbabygirl, I wish I could tell you! lol Seriously! What I can tell you is....the entire image is roughly 16 layers deep, some of the shadows on the vectors are simply either black or darkened versions of themselves, stacked atop one another. Numerous blending modes were used to get individual "likes" to each layer look. I never keep track of my process as it would most certainly send me to the big white room with padded wall paper. I layer, I blend, I reduce sats, I add burns, etc. etc. etc. It's all a bunch of experimentation, THAT...I can assure you! Thanks again for the kind words.
The texture is great, the graphics additions work well with the basic image and emphasise the energy and dynamic impact (except imo the blobby red ray upper left?). In some respects, as Brian remarks, the techniques link to historical painting, eg the strong highlights contrast with some Rembrandt chiaroscuro.
It also reminds me of this -

PS: where did you get your graphics education, formal or selftaught?

Dang!!! Even the SOOC is fantastic! Nicely done!
Thanks for sharing this. Makes it very evident how much work went into the PP'ing.
I'm going to have to try some of the techniques you described.
