When I upload photos they are not automatically protected right now. How can I change that? I have found people taking my pics during upload. Any help would be great.
Thanks

Are you creating a new gallery for these uploads? You need to go to the
new gallery settings BEFORE any photo upload so your privacy/password
    settings can be set.

I've complained about this in the past. Upload to new gallery takes you to
a create gallery page. You'll see in small text at the bottom "Lots more
customization options available in Gallery Settings" but that's just a help
page. There is nothing on the create gallery page warning that photos
uploaded will be public. What is even worst is after hitting save an upload
page comes up. Still no warning and you have to close that page to get to
the gallery so you can go into gallery settings.

SO there is no way to set auto protect as a default?

Originals are also exposed if a max size is not set in the new gallery settings
before upload. This is bad because some uploads could take hours/all night.

I have a quick setting for my family galleries which I select on the create
gallery page. That insures the password is in effect before upload.

For other galleries I use a different quick setting containing my public gallery settings.

It is a sorely lacking feature that you can't create gallery defaults that "just get used". In it's place, you can create a "quick setting" and just make sure to manually select the quick setting any time you create a new gallery. That will give you automatic protection during your upload (assuming you put the appropriate settings in the quick setting).

I just looked at a couple of your recent galleries, and the original images are available for the taking - for free.

Yes, you have right click protection turned on. That is a poorly named feature that doesn't protect anything. The originals can be grabbed easily from the browser cache (and no, this isn't a SmugMug shortcoming, it's the fact that you are showing the photo on the web). You should not allow access to the originals. See ORIGINALS = a gateway to free photos, & right click protection is NOT PROTECTION.

Select any size other than Original as the largest display size to protect your photos.

This is the solution that I've used for years now and it's pretty rock solid. thumb.gif

Is there a tutorial for this? I am having no luck finding how to do this.

Go to a gallery that is set the way you want. There's an option at the top to make a quick setting out of the current gallery setting.
