The one thing that is so nice to see at matting time is how these Grebes display there dance. This pair decided to put on a show for me, and I was sitting on a boat ramp to insure that I got a nice low angle shoot.

Waited an hour phtographying them and all of a sudden that started displaying and worth the wait.

Well, if this location provides this sort of scene / opportunity on a regular basis, I'd be a frequent visitor - along with many others, I suspect :)

Personally, I think these'd be even better from an even lower viewpoint - and the boat ramp provides an excellent platform to achieve this, very simply.

Yes this location is a hit when these birds are there, the problem is once the boats are in the water that is it, they had in another spot and further out.

I would have loved to do that, but the angle od the ramp was one thing to deal with and the other is a bit harder to get that low at my age grin... But I do have another way for next year that will help me get even a lower angle.

Correction on the bird ID: I put Redneck Grebe, in fact these are called Horned Grebes.

    Beautiful Pictures. Love the color.

Grebe's certainly have a strange courting behavior, but it sure is fun to watch.:):
