Small plane friendly rolling bags?

Hi. I'm doing some flying and find that my back can no longer handle lugging my loaded backpack. I have a Tamrac rolling bag but it is too large to meet the carryon requirements on regional carriers.

What rolling bags have you found to be good that will handle the small planes and yet have wheels that will survive being dragged over rough city sidelks?

Ceci - Let me know what you end up getting. I've been thinking I need to buy a rolling bag for the same reasons you do. (It seems like we have an awful lot in common, eh?)

The LowePro Roller X100/X200/X300 are very nice bags with the benefit that the inner part can zip out and become a backpack, leaving the outer shell as a checkable suitcase should size/storage needs dictate.

I think the Think Tank one will be my choice. It is smaller in depth and much lighter than the LowePro roller and I love my other Think Tank bag (backpack).

I admit I have never heard of ThinkTank. It certainly looks like a good choice--I will be interested in seeing it when I come up. BTW, are there any other DGrinners near you ?

If you haven't already gotten one of the ThinkTank items, you might take a look at some of the Kata products.

They make all kinds of packs and cases which fit on their wheeled trolley - so if you are flying on a regional plane, you can take the case off the trolley and hand carry it on the plane. I have the OC-82 with the insert-trolley. It really does fit on the small planes.

Recently I've been looking at some of their other options which also work on the trolley - simply because I shoot outdoors and would like something where I can get at the camera without having to completely unzip the main compartment. The fact that most of their bags of whatever shape and size, work with the trolley is a very useful concept!

Your post says "small plane friendly" and I don't know for sure about the ThinkTank or others, fitting in the miniscule space that a small plane has for overheads. But the Gura Gear Kiboko (from andybiggs.com) will fit beautifully on the small commuter planes. It's not a roller bag but it holds a ton. http://smu.gs/h3n3DQ
