NOTE: I posted some more bear images over in the Wildlife forum, if you happen to be interested.

I've been known to do some things that might be considered "risky", and I'll have to say this was another one of them :huh

While up in Jasper National Park, Alberta Canada, I encountered this incredible photo oportunity, close up!!! About 30' :thumb

I have several images of this bear, but thought I'd start off with this one.

Canon 7D + 70-200L f/2.8 IS

HOLY MOLY pard. A man can look in your eye and see a bit of a daredevil, but I'm going to have to take another long look next time....you just might be plum crazy. Great shot though.

Stay safe, my friend, and try and avoid becoming part of bear poop.:D

I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

We saw a couple of black bears first, and we were pretty exited about that, then we saw the grizzly bears!

    Hey Michael,

Actually for some strange reason I stayed calm and composed. I shot about 75~90 images of this bear. The bear didn't seem to mind, although I did take serious note when the bear was looking directly at me eek7.gif He knew full well I was there, as stated, I was only about 30' from him.

Thanks for looking and your kind comments!

Geez ... I would of been scared as heck. Doubt I could even think straight to get settings right on the camera to even take any photos.

Sounds like you've seen some beautiful country.

As for the bear photo .. a once in a lifetime experience thumb.gif

    Howdy Mary,

I've only been able to sneak into Banff/Jasper for a few hours here and there. A person could spend a lifetime in there and never tire of the awesome beauty there for the taking...

This is truly a place that everyone should see with their own eyes!

I never thought I'd think of a bear as regal, but there he is! Wow. I think I'd like to see a larger version of this as I find myself sort of squinting at his muzzle; does he have grass in his mouth, really? (Note to self: do a little bear research, you sound like a dope.)

So what's your backup plan? Pot of honey thrown the other way?

Craig has told me about this place. We do want to make a trip up there. Not really too far from me. A 2 day drive. With camera in hand .. more like a long 4 day drive rolleyes1.gif

    Remarkably...No

He wasn't showing signs of aggression nor agitation, so I just kept on shooting until he moved on.

I used to live in Calgary and prowled around Kananaskis country a lot, with due respect for and fear of an encounter with a grizzly.

Now I live on the East Coast which has its own beauty, but I miss the majesty of the mountains that virtually dwarf your senses.

Well captured! But have a care. Those teddies can change in a split second and you could be lunch.ne_nau.gif
