I was extremely lucky to encounter this photo opportunity while visiting Banff/Jasper National Park two days ago. These were shot with a 7D + 70-200L f/2.8 IS. The grizzly was only about 30' from me. These are NOT cropped at all.

Looks like he's talking to you in the second photo ... did you talk back to him :D

Wonder what's going through his mind as your taking photos....

Man I'm so jealous, Randy. I've always wanted to shoot a bear. What an experience, and these are excellent shots. I did notice some bright areas, so maybe you can have a helper hold a scrim over the bear's head next time. Just a thought. mwink.gif

I don't think that would be a problem - as long as the helpers name is "Scrim" rolleyes1.gif

Nice Shots...where in particular did you see this guy? Was he close to Jasper? I was there a couple weeks ago and saw 13 black bears. I am hoping to head out to either Jasper or Lake Louise this weekend...and hoping to see my first grizzly on the year.

I saw two black bears (separately) and two grizzly's (separately). This one was close to the Columbia Ice Field.

Good luck and thanks for the comment!

Tater was with Teresa in the car, it was cold and windy rolleyes1.gif
I was walking around the Columbia Ice Fields area.

Tater did get to see two black bears and later that evening, while driving back I saw something walking down the shoulder of the road. Yep, another grizzly. I pulled to the shoulder and sat there while the grizzly simply slipped by the car without a care. Tater was trembling and so was Teresa when I started to roll down her window. (The grizzly was on her side of the car about 5' from the car) - I'll not tell you what verbage came out of her mouth :lol4

    Thanks for looking Denise!
