Contacting users when there's a site update?

Is there any way I can link to something that will contact users when my site is updated, automatically? I've checked out a free service that offers this but haven't had any luck with adding it to my SM site.

Have your users subscribe to your RSS feed for your site. I have my parents do this since they are on dial up still (don't ask) so they don't waste time searching for updated galleries.
