Going to my daughters dance recitel this weekend. What camera would give me better high iso results the d90 or the d300s? I would rather take the d90 only because it's smaller but would take the d300 is that would produce better results. Any suggestions?

If you prefer using the D90, go ahead. I'd prefer the D300s because of the better AF performance, which will be handy in low light, and the 14-bit RAW may give you a bit more detail to pull out of the files. All in all, they use the same sensor so the IQ will be pretty much the same either way, but the extra RAW bits and better AF would make the D300s a better choice, IMO.

I would look at the D7000 it has the newest generation of sensor, I wouldn't look at a new D90 since you can move the the latest gear with D7000 for not much more money.

It sounds like you already own both cameras and are just picking which to bring? Or am I mistaken... If not, I agree with Allan G- the D7000 is the current champion of crop sensor cameras, even though it is slightly less professional than the D300s...

BTW, I personally have shot in extremely low light for years with a D300, doing music recitals, theater, and weddings (my work) ...and I have never been TOO un-satisfied with the results as long as they're well-exposed. And as long as I assess the situation beforehand and go into the job with the right lens, I'm fine.

The AF of a D300s or a D7000 will definitely be MUCH better than a D90, but on the other hand I would rather have a D90 and a GREAT low-light lens than a D300s and a mediocre low-light lens.

Bottom line - you gotta cover ALL the bases... ;-)

Yes Matt you are correct, I already own the d90 and d300s, I really like them both and the d90 is just smaller and lighter even with the grip. But If the d300 will do a better job thats what I will use. I'll be using a 70-200 f2.8 so the lens will be pretty good.
Just curious, why is the af on the 300 better then the 90?

The D90 uses the older, poorly designed AF module from the D200 if I am not mistaken. It is still GOOD, but not as reliable as the D300.

That may well be, but That Lens will get what you want in the low light dept. And of course, even though I favor the D90 (or my GF does Due to weight!), The D300 won't add much weight considering the lens and all.
