Northern Plains Weather

I've been enjoying all the fall photos this week-- it seems like a great year this time around, especially in the Northeast (I miss Pennsylvania!). Anyway-- I wanted to show everyone what sort of place I have to deal with. Both photos were taken around the same time, and I tried for the same angle, though it was difficult with the second as a lot of my visual cues were missing. Taken in Minot, North Dakota, this photo is the true essence of this place. Nothing is moderate, everything is extreme! We have no seasonal transition here-- it changes with the flip of a switch. The first photo was taken during 50 knot winds, the second, ironically, was also taken during 50 knot winds! The day I seperate from the military, I will leave this place and not look back! :D Taken with a canon rebel xt, both with a canon 70-200MM L-series. Neither pics are very good-- mere snapshots, but they speak volumes. I have to say that at the very least, I got to stay home for the day.

    That's an awesome shot.

I wish it would snow. I love the snow. Rain and snow are my favorite weather events. And fog with rain or snow. hehe.

Well I suppose one man's nightmare can be another's dream. Have you ever been to the Northern Plains? People originally from here love it. I find it a bit boring-- though it does serve as a photographic challenge.

I have Canadian friends who are confused why people even live in Minot. There is an entire nation north of Minot and it is nicer there. Nature hates this place and tries to kill everyone on a weekly basis during the winter.

Ya I hate that. I'm glad I'm backshop so some of the time I can hide in the AC.
I find it funny both bases work on the same bird but have either end of the exreems when it comes to weather conditions.
