HTML5 slideshow not working on normal computer

The new HTML5 slideshow works fine on iPhone and iPad, but for some reason it does not work on a "normal" computer that does not have a flash plug-in installed. When I go to my homepage (http://www.tkphoto.me/), it shows "missing plugin". How can this happen? I thought HTML5 does not need a plugin? And especially it should not need a flash plug-in? And if it does need one, then how come it works on iDevices in the first place (which don't allow flash)? I'm really confused. Anyway, how can I make the slideshow work on all computers? Thanks!

It looks like you're using smug's slideshow - and that uses flash on "normal" computers. You'll need to install flash or use one of the html5 slideshows available. If you want a non-flash slideshow there are two that you can use, both are stickies in the customization forum.

Thank you! Yes I've been using the slideshow that's built into the homepage. I thought it was HTML5 since it shows on my iPhone and iPad. But I'll try the other ones you mentioned.

Thanks again for the quick help! I installed the JFriend slideshow and it works like a charm!

The only (minor) comment I have is, why would SM even bother to provide a slideshow that does not work everywhere, instead of contracting this apparently amazing programmer and built that right into SM instead. Anyway, thanks again!

Our own html5 slideshow comes up on devices that cannot support Flash, like iOS. For regular computers that support Flash, Flash is currently required for slideshow, videos and some other parts of the site. Thanks for your understanding.

I know Flash is currently required - but it would be a huge improvement to remove this requirement. I would much prefer to see an HTML5 slideshow in place of your current flash slideshow.

I second this. Flash is on it's way out. I was thrilled when Steve Jobs banned this buggy stuff from his devices, even though it meant my slideshow stopped working (until now). I don't install flash on other computers either anymore, even if Macs don't ban it (yet).

The decision of SM to actually provide an HTML5 slidehow and then don't show it on computers that don't have flash will remain a mystery to me. Why would anybody on the planet prefer to read "plugin not installed" instead of seeing an HTML5 slideshow?

Anyway, please don't get me wrong, I'm not so much annoyed as amused and mystified by the inner workings of SM. And since the 3rd party slideshow is working now for me, I'm happy. Thanks again!
