Glacier Gawking

Glaciers are a lot harder to get a decent image of than one would imagine. I struggle with capturing the grandeur of things like this. I've passed by this spot several times usually in rain/fog. Finally passed by that way on a clear day, too clear.

This is Barry Arm on Prince William Sound. Each of these glaciers in its own right is huge. The mountains on the left side are 5000 ft or so. From left to right they are Cascade, Barry, and Coxe glaciers.

Here is Barry singled out.

Where we woke up that morning. You can just see the top of Cascade glacier in extreme right of frame.

A couple shots taken along a hike into the hills.

I don't envy you your task of capturing the whole huge glacier in its environment. I wouldn't know where to start with that, but you did a great job. They look like giant rivers of ice, interesting right next to green grass. Thanks for sharing!

I like the glacier shots but the last one is my favorite--very nice water!

Thanks for the comment, Schmoo. Yes Alaska is a land of contrasts. It's amazing how fast things turn green once the snow goes off the mountains. Very short growing season so the plants have all adapted and have an overdrive gear ne_nau.gif

Thanks, Lauren. I've got a few more shots from that creek but haven't had time to process them. Shoot in summer, process in winter :D

Know what you mean, Dan--I'm still processing some of my Alaska shots from a year ago!

Will look forward to more of yours.
