My parents were visiting this week and we took a quick run out to Steptoe Butte a couple of nights ago. The wind was blowing pretty hard and the was a pretty good cloud cover, so I was not holding out for ideal conditions. In the end, it was not ideal, but I got a few shots. They really enjoyed the view.

Thanks for looking, Ron

Interesting terrain, the second and third highlight the undulations very nicely.

Nice job given the lousey weather we have had. I always enjoy your views of our area.

Nice shots, Ron--I especially like #2. I'd love to shoot the Palouse someday!

really nice series Ron, I especially like #3, beautiful lighing conditions and love the sunset sky. Also your last image has some great sky and atmosphere.

Beautiful series, Ron! You got the right light to bring out those hills, which is lovely. Really though, I've seen a lot of shots from Palouse but none of the actual vantage point like you have here. Those candid shots really make this location more "real." :D

Those conditions look pretty ideal to me! Love the side light and strong shadows, reminiscent of sand dunes with the interplay of light and shadow. The second and third are my favorite. I like the front lit shot that shows the shadow cast by the butte as well.

I'm going to return to Steptoe with a big tripod and a 500mm lens - the abstract possibilities are endless. The last time I was there there was too much cloud cover.
