One of my favourite yearly traditions is to photograph all the activity at a local Osprey nest in Ladysmith, here on Vancouver Island. There are usually lots of great shots to be had as the parents start bringing fish in to the nest. Here are a couple from this year. All shots are taken hand-held with a 70-200 and my Canon 7D.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
For this nest a 70-200 is just perfect!
The nest is on a platform in an active industrial log-sort operation. The Ospreys seem to have figured out that being close to the humans and all the activity gives them a break from their main enemies, the Bald Eagles.
They are totally oblivious to us as we stand below the nest and really put on a show coming to the nest with fish once the chicks are hatched.
There are 6 other Osprey nests that I know of that are located in sawmills and such in the area.
