Actually, can they be confirmed as wasps? I was looking at a hoverfly site and the first one was very similar to one of the hovers on there.
The second one, I haven't a clue what it had been up to prior to alighting on the flower.

#1 is a Potter/mason wasp looking for caterpillars on your potentilla bush
#2 colonial wasp, at this time of year many are hunting other grubs/insects
