Looks like there's a new accessory out there to combine one's love for your iPhone and your SLR lens collection.

I believe this is a "very" poor quality device, similar to the cheapest DOF adapters for camcorders. Camcorders kind of get away with it because video frame quality is generally much less resolution than still image cameras.

This device apparently projects the image from the adapted SLR lens onto a diffusion screen, and then your cell phone camera focuses on that screen in order to capture the image. The diffusion screen is not going to give you anywhere near the quality of the phone/camera alone, never mind the trouble with focusing.

At the Photojojo site they claim to have links for downloading image samples at 6MPix, but all I find are 600 x 448 pixel images to download. If all you need is that small size I suppose this is a potential solution.

My recommendation is to pass on this device. Just get a super-zoom P&S instead, for the really compact solution, or stick with a conventional dSLR or one of the newer mirrorless cameras.

If you want to try an iPhone-SLR-lens-adapter DIY check out this guy's blog:

I found the thing more amusing than interesting...I don't even have an iPhone. :D

I totally agree, Ziggy. Just seems like an unwieldy setup for what you actually get for shots.

What? Huh? EF adaptor for iPhones
I don't really know how this would even be practical but this seems to be real. Your EF lenses can now be mounted to an iPhone.

    EDIT: Threads merged.

After reading the FAQ I'm left with the same question I had in the first place: other than the novelty, why would anyone want to? headscratch.gif

That's exactly it: a novelty. If it was of decent quality, then it'd have more going for it... for now, I think it will sell, but only to folks who just want to play around.

I merged these 2 similar threads and changed the title of the first to make it more obvious.

    Carry on.

Note that this device is available for both Nikon "F" mount as well as Canon "EF" mount lenses, as well as both the iPhone 3 and iPhone 4.

I still maintain that image quality will be more toy-like and you are generally better off purchasing a quality super-zoom P&S. (This advice is directed at anyone considering the device, not the original poster, who I understand is in general agreement. I do expect that just mentioning the iPhone 3 and iPhone 4 will bring some newcomers to our site.)

What about using a Pentax K-mount to EOS adapter? Since this iPhone thing is manual focus only that should work fine. (Assuming someone wants to go to the trouble for little return in image quality considering the system at work.)

I'm going to have to somehow create an html tag for snark. rolleyes1.gif

I don't have an iphone, but my wife does. It takes great photos without having to put expensive glass in front if it. thumb.gif
