Goodday folks-- I'm wondering if anyone has the speedlite 580 and if so, how you like it and by chance-- some photos of the flash (specifically the back-- just curious to see the entire thing and not just the front). Let me hear your experiences-- thanks.

I have had mine for a couple months and I like it a lot more than the 550EX. My batteries last all day when I use it with a CP-E3.

Thanks-- but do you mind me asking what CP-E3 is?

Developed with working professional photographers in mind, the new external compact battery pack CP–E3 improves flash recycle times significantly and increases to approximately 432 the number of firings before batteries need to be replaced . The pack takes optional rapid-change magazines that can be loaded with 8 AA-size batteries prior to a shoot to ensure fast, smooth transitions from one battery set to the next – important in critical shooting situations or to keep up momentum in the studio. The CP–E3 battery pack is also compatible with the Speedlite 550EX, MR-14EX and MT-24EX.

It is on the same page as the photos.

I'm gonna second the recommendation not only for the 580EX, but also the CP-E3. I have a second magazine and use 2500 mAH NiMH batteries in it. Only thing I wish it had was a battery meter.

I do like that vs the way the CP-E2 was set up and I too have 2500mAH batteries that work great. thumb.gif

Well, guys, I did it and bought the 580EX through Amazon. I hope I'm gonna like it because it was painful to hit "submit order" with that sort of price tag. Adorama sent me an email saying it would take 5-7 days to ship. So I wonder if that is 5-7 days to get it out the door plus the 5-7 days enroute. Seems like a long time to me. I think maybe I'm spoiled by the whole instant gratification dealy. Thanks for your help!

I too felt buyer's remorse when I paid for the 580EX. After using it on my 20D I've long since forgotten what I paid for it. It's a great, easy-to-use, flash and I'm sure you'll be happy with it. I particularly like how quick and easy it is to apply flash exposure compensation using the dial on the back of the flash.
