Sunrise mists

I don't post often, but when I do, my posts tend to end up very long. :D

Anyway: It was time to get up in the middle of the night and take some sunrise photos again. And the St. Ana hill above the Ljubljana Marshes is one of my favorite spots to do just that. Three friends and I drove through the night and climbed the hill a bit after 4 a.m. Not an easy task after only one hour of sleep! The sky above the horizon was already announcing the sunrise, and the mists we were all hoping for were hovering above the ground. Magical!

19. Orange hues didn't last long as the sun relentlessly rose above the horizon.

20. It is interesting to see how the light changed over Ljubljana in the course of 1 hour and 20 minutes.

21. The sunrise was over, but I just couldn't stop admiring the wisps of mist changing every minute.

Late spring and early summer months are the best to shoot the sunrise here. If the weather is nice, you are almost guaranteed to see mists. It's worth getting up for this! ;)

Those are some pretty sweet conditions! Backlit fog is amazing by itself, if you can get backlit sunrise colored fog, it's even better. #17 is my favorite.

What's this complaining about only one hour of sleep? That's one hour more than some people get when they shoot at sunrise :)

Terrific series, Ana! My favorites are 14 and 17. That dark tree in 14 really grabs me as it comes out of the mist.

Don't know how I missed this thread for two years, but these shots ROCK! What an amazing countryside and mix of good timing. They remind me of a cross between the Palouse area in Washington state and Napa Valley (if ever that was possible). Great job!

    Oh, and #9 :wow
