Very cool, after looking at the guy and his reflection, my eye keeps drifting left to the silhouette of the person in the train, unless that's another reflection? Perfect timing, Jiro. Just the way you planned it?

Thanks for the nice comment, Werner. Actually there was a lot of story behind this shot but I thought it was not necessary since it was not really in direct connection with the shot.

I took a bus trip from Texas to L.A. California to renew my traveling passport. The greyhound bus that I took ran out of fuel when we were just crossing the New Mexico - Texas border. Imagine that, a public bus running out of fuel. We ended up waiting for almost 5 - 6 hours hoping for some help to come. Luckily, another bus driver re-routed himself so he can drop us at the nearest bus station for re-transfer. All in all, my trip was delayed by about 8 hours. In the end, it took a big blow to my plan to have some extra time getting some pictures at downtown L.A. but I only have about 2 hours of spare before I have to catch the return bus to Texas that same day.

This shot, was one of the only three that I was able to take while at the Metro Subway Station. There are 2 police officers manning the station and talked to them asking if I can take some pics. Technically, they said that pics are not allowed on the subway but since I am near them they would allow me to take only 2 - 3 shots and that's it. I was totally tired from the whole bus trip and mishaps so holding the camera to take some shots was really hard for me. My hands was shaking from fatigue and my right eye has some infection so my sight is not that good. The first shot was only a test at what shutter speed would work with the incoming train. My second shot was a shot of the 2 police officers and this was the third shot. I set the camera at ISO 800, f/8 and at 1/13 of a second. I really waited for that timing where this guy was the only one left at the station before I pressed the shutter. So, that was the story behind the shot. The trip was a total mess and inconvenience for me and I did not bring any pictures home at all because of body fatigue and disappointment with my messed up schedule.

With all those problems, jiro, you really did come out with a remarkable shot. I like it a lot! I hope you are on the mend now.

Thank you very much, Lauren. Still trying to get some rest but really missed the company here at DGrin so I took the time read the posts.

That was the irony of the trip, Werner. I really thought that I could bring home some good photos to work on but in reality all I got was disappointment and headaches. ne_nau.gif

This is such a wonderful photograph. I love the leading lines on the left, they keep your eye moving very nicely. Wonderful contrast too. I think it's a terrible shame that they don't let people take more photos in subway stations. They tend to have awesome geometry.

And if this is the only shot you got, then it's not a bad trip ;)

Terrific shot, Jiro. Composition and exposure are spot on and the conversion is excellent. You even managed to get a reflection of the guy. Great work. clap.gif

Kind of a cliche' shot, but one of the best renditions of it I've seen. The leading lines make it especially dramatic. Cool story too. thumb.gif

Wonderful scene! I'm sorry for your horrible trip but - you came away with this shot! It's easy for me to say it looked worthwhile but you might beg to differ! ;)

Thank you very much, Eia. I'm not complaining about the shot, I was just personally disappointed. I was really hoping to have more time to shoot pictures in downtown L.A. but my schedule was really screwed up. All afternoon, I was so exhausted that I only want to give myself some rest because I have to go back to Texas the same day. Personally, I am very happy with this shot even though I only got 3 shots from the subway. Thanks for the encouragement. thumb.gif
